About Portfolio++

Overview​

Portfolio++™ is an easy-to-use project, program, and portfolio management extension for Azure DevOps that brings planning, execution, and insight into a single place. It helps teams visualize work over time, align plans with delivery, and make informed trade-off decisions without changing how they already work in Azure DevOps.

Portfolio++ provides four integrated views (Roadmap, Status, Kanban, and Capacity) all built directly on Azure DevOps data. Each view can span multiple projects, teams, or queries, giving teams and leaders a unified understanding of work across their organization.

Roadmaps​

  • Dynamic Gantt-style views with drill-down to tasks
  • Supports custom work-item types and fields
  • Work-item durations calculated using Manual, Generated, or Hybrid build modes
  • Save multiple Roadmap views with different filters and options

Roadmaps are fully integrated with Azure DevOps: data never leaves your organization, views refresh dynamically, and user permissions are respected.

Status View​

  • Provides quick visibility into the health of selected work items
  • Highlights basic quality and completeness issues (e.g., missing estimates or required fields)
  • Helps teams spot problems early

Roadmap Build Modes (Pro)​

  • By Project (Free): Clear, project-centric view
  • By Team: Shows team-specific iteration paths, capacity, and delivery
  • By Query: Flexible, cross-project planning using shared queries; supports flat lists, hierarchical trees, or linked work items

Roadmaps are dynamically refreshed whenever the Roadmap is viewed, ensuring the data reflects current work state.

Kanban View (Pro)​

  • Shows selected work items by state
  • Segmented by Project, Team, or Query
  • Provides real-time visibility into flow, bottlenecks, and blocked work

Capacity Planning View (Pro)​

  • Builds capacity per Team, aligned to iteration paths
  • Provides visibility into workload, forecasts, and budget
  • Highlights over-allocation, underutilization and delivery risk early with color-coded heatmaps
  • Supports multi-team planning even with different iteration cadences

Milestones & Dependencies (Pro)​

  • Milestones: Track important dates, show completion status, and highlight risk
  • Dependencies: Visual indicators for predecessor and successor work items
  • Helps teams coordinate and plan across multiple initiatives

User Selected Metrics (Pro)​

  • Visualize any Azure DevOps data field in Roadmaps, Kanban, or Epic/Feature views
  • Supports custom user-defined fields
  • No schema changes or workarounds required

Licensing & Subscriptions​

  • Trial: 28 days, no credit card required
  • Individual: Single user, $10/month or $110/year
  • Organization: Unlimited users in one organization, $200/month or $2,200/year
  • Enterprise: Custom pricing for multiple Azure DevOps Organizations

Requirements​

  • Azure DevOps Services, Server 2022, 2020, or 2019 Update 1
  • 'Manage Extensions' permission required for installation
  • Users must have Project access + Analytics permissions
  • Supported process templates: Agile, Scrum, CMMI, Basic, or derived templates

Constraints & Limitations​

  • Azure DevOps 2019 pre-Update 1 not supported
  • Cross-Project Queries not supported on Azure DevOps Server 2019
  • Roadmap work-item visibility matches Azure DevOps permissions
  • Performance may degrade with >200 selected work-items in a build-by view
  • Shared queries cannot exceed 50,000 characters
  • Maximum of 15 summable fields for user-selected metrics
